¢º Argentina joins England, Spain and France in stacked semifinal field [2026/07/12   ]

The 2026 World Cup started with 48 teams but now just four remain after the quarterfinals wrapped up on Saturday.

The first matchup of the day was one of the most anticipated of the tournament and it delivered as England held off Norway in an extra-time thriller.

The Three Lions fell behind early after a brilliant strike by Andreas Schjelderup midway through the first half, but Jude Bellingham leveled things just before the break with a nifty slice through Norway's defense. After a scoreless second half, the 23-year-old English wunderkind then nabbed another goal in extra time to keep alive the Three Lions' hope to win their first World Cup title since 1966.

In the late matchup, Alexis Mac Allister got Argentina on the board in the 10th minute, but Switzerland equalized in the 67th minute on a goal by Dan Ndoye and it went to extra time. The Swiss simply couldn't keep up in the bonus frame as Julian Alvarez scored in the 112th minute and Lautaro Martinez delivered a dagger in the waning moments for a 3-1 win.

World Cup quarterfinal results

    Final: France 2, Morocco 0

    Final: Spain 2, Belgium 1

    Final: England 2, Norway 1
