▶ Blatter set to receive Conmebol backing

ASUNCION, Jan 30 (AFP) - FIFA president Sepp Blatter is set to get the backing of South American football confederation Conmebol during their 58th annual congress here on Thursday.
Other items on the agenda include a cost-cutting reduction in player bonuses, the settling of television contracts, as well as fixing competition dates.
Blatter, whose term comes to an end just before the World Cup in Korea and Japan, arrived in Paraguay's capital city on Wednesday and will be accompanied by FIFA general secretary Michael Zen Ruffinen at the meeting.
It won't all be back-slapping for Blatter however with Paraguayan officials, including Conmebol president Nicolas Leoz, keen for FIFA to reduce the ban on keeper Jose-Luis Chilavert which will keep him out of the first two games of the World Cup finals. |
