¢º Messi¡¯s visit to India ends in chaos as police intervene at stadium [2025/12/14   ]

Lionel Messi's visit to India got completely out of control this Saturday (13), with disorganized protests by fans that even required police intervention.

In the country for a special tour called ¡°GOAT Tour India 2025,¡± a three-day visit including events in various cities and major tributes, Messi made a brief appearance at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata, accompanied by teammates Rodrigo De Paul and Luis Suárez.

Surrounded by security and authorities, the Argentine had just enough time to make a brief lap of appreciation to the audience.

This ended up angering a large part of the crowd present.

According to reports from fans on the internet, most were unable to even see the Argentine player, while VIP guests had privileged access.

The organization was, therefore, heavily criticized for failures in crowd control, which led to the "chaos" mentioned above.

The Salt Lake Stadium had approximately 80,000 tickets sold, each costing over 100 dollars.

Shortly after the incident, West Bengal's Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee, spoke out on social media with a strong statement.

¡°I am deeply disturbed and shocked by the mismanagement witnessed today at Salt Lake Stadium,¡± she wrote on X.

She also stated that she was on her way to the stadium to attend the event along with thousands of fans and apologized for the incident.

¡°I sincerely apologize to Lionel Messi, as well as to all sports lovers and his fans, for this unfortunate incident,¡± she added.

Messi, an eight-time Ballon d'Or winner, is expected to continue his journey with commitments in the cities of Hyderabad, Mumbai, and New Delhi.
