TOKYO, Feb 3 (AFP) - Japanese striker Naohiro Takahara will rejoin J-League Jubilo Iwata after Argentine club Boca Juniors decided to terminate a one-year loan deal with him, a report said Sunday.
His poor form and the deteriorating Argentine economy have forced Boca to review the contracts of their foreign players and release the 22-year-old Japanese marksman, the Kyodo news agency quoted Iwata officials as saying.
Iwata president Takanori Matsuzaki told reporters on Saturday that he had contacted Boca executives by telephone and facsimile and found the team faced problems including "unpaid wages due to inflation".
"We are still in the process of confirming the report," he said about the possibility of Takahara returning to Iwata. "If he wants to return home, it would be good for us, too,"
Boca Juniors signed Takahara from the J-League side last August in a 300,000-dollar deal to plug the gap after losing star striker Martin Palermo to Spain's Villarreal.
The loan contract was sealed with a view to signing a permanent deal worth four million dollars.
Takahara became the first Japanese player to appear in the Argentine first division but struggled to make any impact and only managed to find the net once in seven appearances.
Akinori Nishizawa returned to relegated J-League side Cerezo Osaka following an unfruitful loan spell at English Premier League side Bolton Wanderers.
Takahara is scheduled to fly back to Japan this week and will rejoin his teammates at Iwata in preparation for the start of the new J-League season, Kyodo said.
