Gerard Houllier, Liverpool's manager, reserved special praise for his striker Michael Owen after the 2-0 win over Derby County.
Houllier praised the striker for coming back from the disappointment of missing chances in Liverpool's exit from the Champions league at the hands of Bayer Leverkusen.
 "
After the chances he missed against Leverkusen, he has come back to score at Sunderland, then for England, now these two," said Houllier.
"He was an inspiration for England and now he's got more for us. And he could have had a couple more too. He was hammered by critics for missing those chances in Europe but he's mentally strong and confident about himself.
"He's very sharp and strong and he knows that if he misses chances there will be more around the corner. It was so unfair to have a go at him after what he contributed to the five trophies we have won." |
