Infront of 40,000 fans at the Ramat-Gan Stadium, Maccabi Tel-Aviv won it second Cup in a row (and 22 in total), after winning over the champion Maccabi Haifa.
Both teams had their share of chances to finish the game, the most dangerous situation came for Haifa near the end of the game, when Yossi Benayoun, in his last game before moving to Spanish Primera Liga, dribbled inside the box, passed his defender, but faild to beat goalkeeper Strauber.
The game went into 30 minutes extra time, after both teams failed to score, but even extra 30 minutes, plus a good tempo of the game did not brought any goals, and they went to penalty shootout.
Even in the penalty shootout, the game went into the last moments, when all 4 kicks by both teams were scored. The last kick for Maccabi Haifa took, elected Player Of The Year, Giovanni Rosso, who missed it. The last kick for Maccabi Tel-Aviv took Avi Nimny, the team Captain, who scored it smoothly to the left corner ,to mark the start of the celebrations for the second year in a row winning the cup. |
