Two generations of Argentine football go head-to-head when Barcelona starlet Javier Saviola faces AS Roma's veteran striker Gabriel Batistuta in the Champions League here Wednesday.
The duel between the South American duo is one of the most intriguing sub-plots of a Group B showdown that pits two of Europe's most famous clubs against each other.
When 33-year-old Batistuta began his career in Europe with Fiorentina in 1992, Saviola was just 10.
Saviola, who has earned comparisons with Diego Maradona, said Batistuta had been an inspirational figure during his career. "His virtue is the goal, his instinct is incredible," Saviola said of 'Batigol' this week.
Batistuta's goal record is phenomenal, and includes two strikes in European competition at the Nou Camp. A third on Wednesday could be crucial for Roma's season.
