LIMA, Feb 18 (AFP) - Peru's professional footballers have threatened to strike over non-paid salaries, the country's footballers' union AFAP said on Monday.
The threatened, open-ended action, authorized by the country's employment ministry on Friday, would disrupt the start of Peru's opening football championship which starts at the weekend.
"With these debts, no matches," claimed AFAP president Francesco Manassero, who is demanding clubs pay the arrears in salaries owed to about 200 players.
The sums concerned were not revealed. Reigning league champions Alianza Lima is one of the clubs ready to take
this action if the demands are not met.
